Literal vs. Inferential questions and Using text evidence!

Summarizing in 5 steps!

Students watch this short clip to find out what are the 5 steps to then try it out.  Once  you have taken notes, then go select one of our picture books in our class and try it out.   Have your notes next to you and write your summary into journal with the book tiltle and the date.

Once  you have your draft written remember to share your writing, but before you do that, watch this video that gives you an example of the language used when giving constructive feedback to each other.  The goal is to help your group members or writing buddy improve his/her writing.  So pay attention to what is being said.  Take notes of what you are listening to and then try it out.


Pay attention to the notes the author is making as she is getting the listener's reactions to her writing to then re-enter her piece and make her changes.

Finding themes in readings

Listen and watch this video about how to determine the theme of things you read. Take notes and think about what is the author trying to tell us about life and then select one of our classroom books and try to determine the theme. Remember that theme is a sentence, its not one word only.  So, if a book you read the word that comes to your mind is friendship, that would be the topic, to find theme think: so what about friendship?  what is the message about friendship the author wants me to learn?

Take note and pay attention to how the leads are developed and then try to write one that will hook readers to want to read your own personal narrative.  Have fun with it but make it interesting.

Welcome to our blog page where you will have access to video clips related to what we will be learning in reading and writing.  I am excited to start a new school year once we return from our summer break.   Hope all of you are ready to learn as well.   I had to start this new class blog since our other page was not working properly so be patient as I start re uploading and re creating our page all over again.  That's technology for you, when it works its beautiful, but when it does not it's a major headache.  So, in time we will have all of it as it was in the other.  For now, I just wanted to greet everyone.  See you upon our return.
